The Homestead Journal ~ Week 9~ New Van and a Field Trip!

What's New In Our Life
Thanks to the blessing of Heavenly Father and one of his angels, and the help of one of our bretheren, we were able to get a new van. Its a 2002, with 80K. Great shape. We are so very grateful to have a vehicle again.

What We Are Learning
Sunday was a beautiful day. The children spent part of their afternoon doing rubbings. Trees, tires and any other surface they thought was interesting.

With the new van we spent two days off schedule and my mother left back to Texas on Thursday so we didnt do much by way of formal schooling this week.

Our Adventures
Well, since we now have transportation, we had a busy week. Monday we took a drive into town, had dinner and made a few stops. We hoped to get some much needed grocery shopping done, but Isaac fell ill. We went back out on Wednesday, went to the library, did some shopping and got home for a quick lunch. We then headed back out, dropped Daddy off at work then we were off to the park, dinner  and scouts. We used our Pizza Hut Book it coupons. They were out of personal pan pizza's so we got 3 mediums. This made it possible for Jacob, Ezra and I to also enjoy pizza ( at no extra cost). I did however buy a salad for myself . The 4 older children enjoyed their activities while I kept the 5 younger ones occupied in the nursery room.

 Challenges/Accomplishments This Week
I love making my life easier. Especially when its a low cost idea.
When my husband went to 2nd shift we had to make some adjustments. I have been scheduling out big meal at lunch time and having a light dinner. This was working, but needed to be fine tuned.
So this week I bought little boxes and I am making packed lunches for all of us. I make these either when I make breakfast or lunch. At 6pm when its time to eat the children just grab their boxes and sit at the table. These will also be useful when we head out for our adventures!

My Favorite Thing This Week
Seems Lucas is hitting milestone after milestone. Lucas is crawling like a champ and is even pulling himself up on things. He is growing so fast. It is bitter sweet. But my favorite thing is to see the excitement in his face when he does these things.

Additional Photos of Our Week

His first bit of chocolate. One of the littles gave him a granola bar, per my instructions..however, they gave him a chocolate one LOL As you can see, he didn't mind.

A bit of back roads in Kentucky
Almost home, you can see it peeking over the hill. I LOVE the big tree. I like a different view of it.

We stopped at the aviation park. These were the planes on display.

  1. Congratulations on the new van! Sounds like you enjoyed having a vehicle for the crew again this week! Park! I can't wait for warmer weather and parks again! ((sigh)) LOL

And of course I love the boxed lunches/dinners idea! You got 3 divider ones! I could only find 2! Where did you get them? (Not that I should buy MORE plastic containers! LOL)

  4. I am so happy for you all in the gift of a new van. It looks nice. Your school days sound as though they are flowing rather smoothly and the little guy is growing so quickly. You have a great looking family and the pictures are beautiful.
