The Homestead Journal ~ Week 10~ OK Go and Beautiful Moonrise

What's New in our Life
We have a new look! I enjoy being creative and I am very pleased with the new look. How do you like it?
I plan to help a few others design a new look for their blogs.

What We Are Learning
We are working through the Nomads, and into the beginnings of Egyptian life. We watched Riddles of the Sphinx and Secrets of Archaeology. For Scout School the boys are working on the Archaeology Merit Badge. Isaac has been eagerly working on his Wolf Badge. We also watched a few shows from the series Before the Dinosaurs. Its evolutionary based, but we still enjoy them.

Zachary has been working on his math skills. He used two dice to create math sentences. He did a column of two, then decided to do the next column with three. He wants to work up to 6. One column a day he says. Quinten has started a book on statistics and probability.

We are starting to work out of our science project book. We learned about Stroop effect. This was a fun experiment. Jacob made a graph showing our results. It has also become a family challenge. We also learned about body dimension. Measuring everyone's height and wingspan, we made a chart to see where everyone lined up. The closer to 1 the more square you are. Daddy, Mommy, Isaac, Zachary and Ezra are all 1. Jacob, Abigail and Urijah all have a wingspan shorter than their height, Quinten and Olivia have a longer wingspan. Lucas was unwilling to participate. Of course these doubled as math lessons and we were able to learn about Phi ϕ. We halted this discussion to be continued when we study ancient Greece in the near future.

Our Adventures
Tuesday we went to the library, by luck, we made it just before Story Time. We usually avoid these types of events as it has been hard to split, but the way the library is designed, I was able to take the younger ones while the older ones stayed in the main area. This was nice as I could keep an eye on both, and no one seemed bothered by it. They did a little story time, activity and a craft. We will plan to go every Tuesday as long as it continues to go well. Wednesday was scouts, Joe dropped the boys off at a friends house and they went to scouts together and Joe picked them back up after work. It made for a late night for them, but they had alot of fun.

 Challenges/Accomplishments This Week
Zachary is now on to chapter books. He grabbed three small ones this week. Jacob made First Class in Scouts and is working to get his Star in May. If he continues to work as he has been, he will get his Eagle Scout in May 2013. Isaac earned his Bobcat Badge, they will be recognized at the Pack Meeting at the end of the month.

My Favorite Thing This Week
Ezra is learning his big brother role.  The other day Lucas had crawled over to a cup that Daddy had left on the floor.. Ezra walks over and says "No, Baby, no, that's Daddy's" and took the cup into the kitchen. It was adorable. He is really good about playing with him and sharing..

Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land; And as pertaining to law of man, whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil."
